Sainsbury’s has confirmed it is in the “advanced” stages of talks with Walmart over a merger between Asda and Sainsbury's that could create the UK’s biggest supermarket group. The shock deal between the UK’s second and third biggest supermarkets would give the combined entity about 31% of the supermarket sector.
